Hi there! My name is Nina, and I’m super excited to launch my food blog, The Ginger Foodie. First things first, who is The Ginger Foodie?
I’m your everyday ginger who loves shopping, Netflix, and food--but more on that food part later.
I’m a New Yorker, born and bred in Brooklyn, but in 2001, my family moved to Northern New Jersey. In 2014, I graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science. After graduation, I accepted an internship with the Department of State, and then found a job working in DC. I’ve been in DC ever since, and I love it here. You can also check out my About Me page to learn more.
Even though I live in DC, I still cling to home whenever I can. I’m a huge New York Giants fan, and I look forward to football season every year. Watching both my Giants and my alma mater play football brings such joy into my life. I’m also a huge geek, particularly when it comes to Star Wars. Fun fact about me, I’ve seen the Star Wars movies so many times (even the prequels, unfortunately) that I can identify the music to a particular scene without the movie even being on. Not sure if that’s awesome, or sad, but don’t really care.
Other interests include binge-watching Netflix shows, reading comic books, and playing video games. Most importantly, my biggest interest of all is...food.
My love for food is the reason I’m starting this blog. Well, I also enjoy writing, so I’m looking forward to getting into the creative writing world again. Once upon a time I wrote fanfiction for Young Justice and Avatar the Last Airbender, and I’m excited that this blog is a new way to mix my love for writing and my love for food.
The Ginger Foodie first started off as my Instagram handle. When that launched, it was a window into my life, but 95% from a food perspective. Since I love food so much, and consider myself an adventurous eater, I enjoyed sharing the various foods I ate, regardless of how silly I look taking pictures at the table. On the recipe front, I want to share recipes that may seem fancy, but are super simple in execution. Cooking can be intimidating, and I want to show you that it doesn’t have to be.

Even though the main purpose of this blog is to be a way to share my food ventures, I want it to be a bit more than your typical food blog. For one, I like to travel every chance I get. Whether it be back home to New York, or somewhere new, each trip has a different story to be told. And with new places to see, there’s also new food to eat.
Another thing I want to write about is fitness. As someone who enjoys to eat, I also enjoy being active. It helps me de-stress, but being in the workforce, I’ve recently struggled with maintaining a work-life balance that makes me happy. So my goal is that writing about my fitness journey will also hold me accountable in finding that balance.
There are tons of food blogs and Instagram accounts that have inspired me to go out and try new things, and I hope my blog will provide that same inspiration. I want this blog is to be a place where I can share ideas for those looking for a new restaurant to try, a new recipe to cook, a new place to visit, or just a new experience.
So I want to say thank you for joining me on my blog journey! Now let’s dig in.
